Ezard wins The Age Good Food Guide 2013 Diners' Choice Award

Posted: 28 August 2012

Last night the Victorian restaurant industry turned out at the NGV Great Hall for its annual night of nights, The Age Good Food Guide Awards. It was a celebration of all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to create memorable dining experiences thoughout Victoria.

ezard retained the two hat rating it has held since opening in 1999, for which we are always grateful, but this year Teage and team were completely surprised to be honoured with the Diners' Choice Award! Of the award, the Guide says:

Teage Ezard's elegant basement bunker feels like a great spot for a foodie assignation, and users of The Age Good Food Guide app and website agree. It may be a city stalwart, but Ezard remains an innovator whose rusted-on signatures – oyster shooters and caramelised pork hock – have kept diners coming back for more since 1999.

Of course, we are completely thrilled with that! The full review in The Age Good Food Guide 2013 was also very satisfying:

Thirteen years on, this elegant basement restaurant still delivers arresting east-west dishes of alluring complexity. A consistent performer known for exemplary service, ezard is top-class, high-end dining. The plush fitout and well-spaced tables allow for easy conversation, perfect for business, romance and celebration. As for the signature chilli caramel pork hock, resistance is futile. For an exhilarating adventure in colour, texture, flavour and harmony, take an eight-course tour stopping off in South-East Asia, moving through seafood to eight-score wagyu. Think swordfish shooter; citrus-cured salmon with sweet beet meringue and wasabi aioli; and a silky crab dumpling in luscious, aromatic tom kha. Next, coconut-grilled ocean-trout on thick zingy gazpacho; sticky, slow cooked, five-spice Bangalow pork belly with apple pud and calvados jus; and Chinese-style roast duck with green chilli dressing on coconut rice. Finish with mango bavarois, slow-cooked peach and raspberry sorbet. Sublime.

Wine An impressive international list of established, iconic and emerging wines, and well-versed staff keen to advise.

Score 17/20
